Career Tips - How to Reduce the Possibility of Getting Fired

In today's world, it is vitally important that you try and do everything that you can to avoid getting fired from the job. With so many job seekers out there looking for work, you know just how important your job is to you and it could be your own source of income. Remember, anyone can find themselves fired and out of a job, even for no good reason, but, there are a few things that you can try to do to fall victim to the ax.

The number one thing that you can do if you don't want to end up on the pink slip list, make sure that you get to work early every single day. Even if you are occasionally late it can give you black marks on your record and if you make it a habit to be late, even just a couple of minutes late, can really look bad on your work record. It's recommended that you try to get to work about 15 minutes early each day. This will also help you get ready for the day ahead.

Make sure that you get plenty of sleep the night before work. The last thing you want to do is come to work extremely tired and sleepy. Worst of all you don't want the chance of maybe even nodding off during a lull in work when you might find yourself bored and with nothing to do. Also if you don't get enough sleep it can impair your ability to perform efficiently as well. And this will be noticed by your employer.

Try not to sit around and talk a lot to others while you are working. A lot of times that can lead to less work production and will make your boss think that you are not doing your work. Even if you are busy at work it can still give off the appearance that you aren't. This doesn't mean you can't be friendly but you just need to remember that the busier you look the better you will look to your employer.

If you are not allowed to eat at your desk, don't do it. Make sure that you eat a good breakfast before work and that you either bring a good lunch and something for your breaks so that you can avoid getting hungry during the time that you should be working.

Cell phones also might be an issue. A lot of companies prefer that you leave them off while you are working so make sure that you follow this rule and don't have it and don't use it while you are working. There should be no problems with you using it on your breaks and lunch however.

When you are working on something that has a deadline set, your boss expects that you will get this project done at that time. So make sure that you are able to meet his expectations. Even if you have to perhaps ask someone to do something of yours that is not as important if they have time so that you can meet the deadline. Whatever you do, don't come up short and have only excuses why you didn't get the job done.

Some companies will give random drug tests and a sure fire way of getting fired is to test positive. So logic would dictate for you to stay away from drugs. In fact it should be a no brainer.
