There was a time that when someone got a job it generally meant that it was going to be one of those long term types of employment and if a person decided to quit it appeared that they were being self destructive. However; that has changed in today’s employment world.

Before the age of 32, a lot of people will have a new job nearly each year. Some of this has to do with different management training courses available and the many different recruitment agencies out there.

In the job market today, quitting a job has become part a way for some people to find that so called perfect job. Younger job seekers today have totally different expectations about their jobs than that of generations past. A lot of job seekers today believe their job needs to feed their souls and their egos far sooner than later.

No matter what reason you might have for wanting to leave your place of employment, you should always try your best to quite the job with some sort of gracefulness. Here are some pointers on how to try and do this.

Make sure that you are aware of how you are feeling about your job and decide when it’s time to leave a job, make sure that you make that decision before things start turning really sour on the job.

Do not start telling fellow employees that you are looking for another job or that you have found another job and that you’re getting ready to quit. Always make sure that it’s your boss that you approach this with before anyone else. Your boss is going to feel extremely insulted about this if they have to hear it from another employee and not you.

After that, tell whomever you want. Word of warning though, make sure that whatever reason you gave the boss is the same reason that you tell everyone else. Don’t go around telling people different reasons, this too can get back to the boss.

Make sure that if you have done a really good on the job that you don’t completely shut the door on the possibility that you might want to return and work for this employer again. This is especially important if you end up specializing in something that this company might have a need for later on down the road and it was something at the time you were not qualified for.

So don’t rant and rave about those you have worked with there, try to avoid anything negative at all about your work experience at that particular company.

Resignation letters are not all they are cracked up to be. At all costs try to avoid having to write one. However; if you cannot because of some legal reasons with the company then make sure the letter is as short as possible with the utmost of respect and politeness.

Make sure that when you give your notice that you give it in a manner that is going to set you up for a good reference in the future for other jobs that you might be considering applying for. The positive of a trail that you leave behind you from previous jobs the far better chance you will have at getting that perfect dream job you are searching for.

After you have given your notice it is important that you understand that at the moment of your notice you no longer are a true subordinate. You actually become your boss’s equal and so it is important to note that you do your best to do your job with respect and kindness even though technically you are doing the last few days of your work as a favor to the company. By doing this you won’t be burning any bridges behind you when you take that final step out the door.
